Food is good, prices could be lower and expect to be there at least an hour because service is sleepy
Retro diner, well-prepared comfort food, awesome ice cream. What's not to love?
I ate a delicious egg sandwich here before hitting the slopes at Killington. It seemed difficult to find a place open early enough, but my friend and I were very pleased with what we found. Our service was very friendly. She told us that omelettes weren't being served, but that was fine because I wanted a sandwich anyway. I wish I remember the servers name, but her hospitality was a great way to start the day. I was also able to buy some maple syrup from the gift shop!
Great place for some comfort food.
If you are a local, you will know this place and love it; if you are expecting anything special, you're in the wrong place. The iced cream is good (long lines in the spring & summer), the gift shop has typical Vermont merchandise and the food is fair.
Food very plain. Place needs remodeling. Decor appears to be from 1970s. Also temperature in dining room seemed to be in the low 60s or high 50s when it was about 25 outside. Nothing enjoyable about the experience.
Good food at a good price. Place could use some updating and deep cleaning.
I use to love this place as a kid. Everyone wanted Sewards ice cream in the summer. My great grandfather and his friends sat at the stools for many years every single morning. Today... horrible service and super understaffed. Then I witnessed how the owner treats his help the other day. Now I understand why it's understaffed. Unreal -I almost wanted to take the guy aside and offer him a job. It was repulsive. He answered to the boss "yes sir." He was more respectful than I would've been as an employee of my employer treated me that way. Sadly my kids will not get to enjoy the pleasure of Sewards in the summer as I refuse to give business to someone who mistreats their staff.
Always good. Not for u if u r looking for upscale eatery. Local icon.
Good ice cream with a massive selection of flavors.
Like the old days. Friendly people good food. Like ma's home cooked meals.
Good diner style food, not pretending to be anything other than good cheap reliable food. Fast service
Food was good...ice cream was excellent! Nicole our waitress was great!!
Love coming here with the family. Diners are always nice
This place used to be the best place to eat in Rutland. Now, it kind of sucks. The food quality has gone downhill fast. The ice cream is still great, though. But, not much else.
I'm dairy free, gluten free, and won't eat meat if I don't know where it comes from. My only option is the salad bar, and it sucks! The vegetables are soaking in water, which makes them disgustingly moist, and the only dairy-free dressing looked like algae. The place is in need of a makeover: the salad bar is held together with duct tape, the ceiling is burned and torn, and there's this wire that hangs low--nearly clotheslines me every time. The owner seems like a real jerk: he yells at his staff, and I feel bad, because the wait staff are so hard-working and kind.
Ice cream was really good!
Great cheeseburgers and amazing pies!
I eat here for the nostalgia of what Seward's used to be. I loved it back in the day when the restaurant was always full, the ice cream windows were lined up with customers and times were simpler. Today the food is okay, the ice cream is still tasty but the restaurant is never busy.
Its okay for food ice cream is really good
Don't eat there! My wife and I went in to order out at 8:30 pm...the waitress Linda was very kind, but the cook (who turned out later to be Mr. Seward the owner!) looked agitated that he had to cook a scallop dinner so late and was slamming things around, he even put his bare hands in the fries to place in the fryulator The scallops and fries were melted into the styrofoam and the coleslaw was rancid! Worst food ever, we didn't eat it and the dog even turned his nose away
Good food great price 👍
No pretense here. The entire property, building and menu are old and could use some updating, the food is bland but dependable. Mac and Cheese is very good, as is the coleslaw with a hint of horseradish. The fried chicken and fried veal are indistinguishable and no flavor other than crunchy coating. Texture is rubbery and dry. Service is adequate. Good ice cream. Friendly, aged neighborhood reguLars. Comfortable. Not gourmet.
The place is noted to be “ historic “ this I believe. The building is a wreck. It has a bad smell- should’ve walked out because looking at it more closely I think it has mold. All ceiling tiles are brown and water stains running down the walls. However the ham and cabbage soup was delicious and our waitress was efficient and friendly!
Service sucks and the food is not worth the wait! I do like the ice cream cakes.
Food was good.service was a little slow.
An old family restaurant that still exists. I used to go there as a child for ice cream cones. They make their own ice cream. It's nice to see they're still there. Food is good, service is slow but then they cook the food when you order. I had a good waitress, she knew my mother and seated us where my mother wanted to be seated - my mother has a walker. Thank you for keeping this place open.
Great food...and service!
We went here easter dinner this year . food was horrible , no taste and some of the food was cold. There was 8 of us and we all said mcdonalds would have been better then the food we had. We couldn't finish our meals it was so bad.
Customers not wearing masks and touching knives, forks and spoons. Plastic menus that others have touched. Food was good
Good home cooked food, really good prices
This place reminds of a restaurant I grew up with called Bergsons. It great sandwiches and item like fish and chips. I it like mom makes. You finish with a good old fashion hot fudge Sunday at a reasonable price
The ladies who served us were fantastic! And the sandwiches were great. Moist grilled chicken, crispy bacon, perfectly toasted buns and bread. The side salad was well stocked and served with a tasty dressing. Pickles accompanying each plate. I was impressed with the other plates I saw coming out as well. It was pre-noon, not too crowded, but many folks were coming and going while I worked at the table after eating. No wifi, but good LTE signal even inside. For SO many reasons (dessert being a big one) we'll be coming back - frequently!!!
Inexpensive old style diner food.
The place remind's me of the forties which I absolutely love, and the waitress was incredibly kind. The food was also amazing and still tastes good after you bring it home and reheat it. Absolutely love this place and I would love to work there.
Wow, this place needs repair. I remember going here 25 years ago when I was growing up, and it was a respectable, nice place to go. Now, the years show. The sign is gone, the ceiling tiles are black, and I decided not to order food. The young kids serving did their best, but... I won't be back. Sad to see such a staple of my childhood slide into neglect and disrepair.
Not bad. I mean. Not great either. The burger was ok. My gf got the grilled cheese and I’m not sure if they forgot the cheese or just had it sliced as paper thin as the cheese on my burger. You can see through the cheese is what I’m saying. She loved her soup. I think it was chicken something. She eats so much soup I mistake her for an old man a lot. But it wasn’t bad. I guess when your sign is literally falling off the building you have to pinch pennies where ever you can. Be careful in the “gift shop”. There are no gifts. All of the ice cream is empty. And the egg nog was expired by a month. It WAS March so I didn’t want egg nog, but if you’re gonna have a dairy based product you should check the date. My date checked and saw that it was expired. We high tailed it out of there and have a wonderfully funny story after the stomach pains subside.
We are visiting Rutland. Always our choice for breakfast. Good home cooking. Awesome service. My family s fav place.
An adequate meal while traveling.
Anytime I am.passing thru rutland on my way to burlington ,I stop here. It is the last of a dying breed and thrilled to see it is still open Good basic food like hot Turkey and basic sandwiches.if you are looking for trendy, this is not the place. To use an overused phrase, it is a treasure.
Food was as expected for a diner. Kind of dirty.
Food was average diner quality but they were above catering to dietary requests. I asked to replace the Canadian bacon in my eggs Benedict with vegetables (I don't eat meat), and was told "he won't do that. You can order it as a side and put it on yourself". Hmm okay sure. Then I was charged the original price of the Benedict with the additional cost of the vegetables even though they saved money from not giving me any of the meat.
Small town cooking and dining.
Love the food and the friendly staff
Decent food, a little slow this morning.
Great food....A little disappointed in the price increases. However, it is still more reasonable than 99 or Apple Bee's for a family of 4...Nancy and Kelly make the trip worth while before 2pm shift change.. . They really appreciate and take care of their customers....
Canned chicken, canned peas, frozen fish. Had I known this was going to be food I could buy at my local price chopper and cook it (better) myself at home, I would have done that. Worst meal since grade school lunch.
Hours wrong different hours for winter
Mediocre food although the ice cream is exceptional. The proprietor need to show some pride in his/her store. If you go there take a good look around..especially at the ceiling tiles.
